Episode History Disappeared

My entire episode history, over 32,000 items has disappeared!

What’s going on?

Actually, the situation is more complicated than that.

I have the app running on 3 Android devices. My primary phone is showing and empty episode history.

Another device is showing, what looks like, a complete up-to-date history.

A third device is showing a nearly empty history, with just a tiny number of my most recently watched items.

I hope you can straighten this mess out.

Thanks

I have done some more investigation.

My primary phone is on version 6.0.0. There my entire episode history disappeared. The movie and TV show histories are still there.

An older phone that is still running 5.7.1 has the data intact.

A tablet I run the app on is on version 6.0.2. It lost the entire history of everything - movies, TV shows and episodes.

I am not sure why all my devices are at different levels. They usually all get the same version. I didn’t even know I had received the 6.0.0 update or the 6.0.2 update until I just looked, but there is clearly a very serious problem with the new version. Before I attempt any sort of recovery, I would like to be confident this isn’t going to happen again.

I would really appreciate a quick response on this.

Thanks

In addition, Moviebase version 6 has wiped out my personal list entries, my watch list and my collection. In short, it is a total disaster of a release.

There is a new Beta version for user that registered the Beta track.

The version duplicates the items into a new database. The items aren’t lost, but not fully loaded into the newer database.

As long as you not wiped out the data manually of the entire app, it should still exist.

The best is to create a backup file (settings export) and being logged in.

Hi Chris,

Do you know how long it will take for the new database to be populated?

Are you only populating it for people who install the new version?

My older phone that is still on version 5 is frozen at Android version 10. Does Moviebase version 6 not support Android 10? That’s the only reason I can think of that it would not also have version 6 of Moviebase. If that is the case, is there something missing from Android version 10 that Moviebase version 6 really needs? Otherwise, why would you not support it? If version 6 will not support Android versions older than 11, will updates continue to be synced across the two databases? How long will version 5 and the older database be supported?

Thanks for any additional information.

It’s only 10% of beta users and not in the production version. So only a few people have the migration. I tested with a few thousand episodes, but users might have even more of different shows.

We need to migrate because the local database was outdated, and we wanted to have better Trakt-related data.

The new Moviebase version will be run for 1-2 months in the Beta track before going into production.

You can remove the Beta tester if you don’t want to have these new features.

Chris,

Thank you for that clarification,

I tried restoring my data from a backup. It doesn’t look like it completed properly. It’s showing 20,538 episodes in the history, and there should be over 30,000.

Now I’m getting the message you can see in the below screenshots. Moviebase says my Trakt session has expired, and it is trying to make me login through Trakt.

I switched from using Trakt some time ago, I use the Google login process and don’t sync with Trakt. I can’t let Moviebase sync with Trakt because I no longer have a VIP account there, and I have personal lists with lots of entries. I’m afraid my lists would be wiped out since Trakt without VIP severely limits the size of personal lists.

I don’t understand why it is trying to make me login with Trakt. My account has been set up for Google login for a long time. I can’t seem to get past this issue. I have closed and reopened the app several times and have rebooted my phone. The app always comes back to this error when I start it.

Please help.

I have seen the issues with the watched episodes. There are too many to restore all at once for the new DB.

The new version allows Google and Trakt at the same time. However, logged out trakt users shouldn’t have the data / state in the app.

I now have the Trakt login required message on both my devices running version 6. I can’t do anything with the app as long as that is present. As I said, I don’t want to log in to Trakt in Moviebase and have my data synced with Trakt and damage my data, maybe losing hundreds of personal list entries. I don’t use Trakt anymore and do not want to sync with it. It causes too many problems.

So, how do I get around this Trakt login prompt and continue using Moviebase without risking Trakt sync problems? My Trakt account is far out of date, and I don’t want it involved in my Moviebase data.
